The Jug & Bottle is set back somewhat from the main Telegraph Road but is easily accessed as a pedestrian through some community facilities. This was my first visit to Heswall since 2019 which also the last time I visited this pub. Although, I can't say I remember it too well.
It's a bare boarded pub/restaurant with accommodation. There are a few rugs and plants scattered around to create a bit of comfort, along with a few pictures on the walls. There are no TVs, with music playing quietly instead. Children are allowed in.
The regular cask ales are Brimstage Trapper's Hat & Brain's The Rev James Original. Guests were Timothy Taylor Landlord & Peerless Langton Spin. In addition, there were a couple of interesting craft beers in Salopian Auric & Wild Horse Quarry of Colour. The cider was Aspall's and there was a list of wines and cocktails to the side of the bar, along with a gin, whisky and run of the month promoted above the bar.
I chose the Langton Spin. It was undrinkable and I returned it. A couple of people my side of the bar (I assume off duty bar staff) said that it was a new barrel but it seemed nobody had pulled it through. When the young barman did pull some through, my new drink was in a much better condition.
This is probably just about the best pub in Heswall these days but it's nothing particularly special.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Jug & Bottle Hotel
A large stand alone pub, which was fully refurbished last December. The interior has been kept in a traditional style and has been tastefully fitted out. The layout consists of the bar facing you as you enter, two corner rooms on the right are a popular for diners, looking over the Dee Estuary. Two snugs can be found either side of the entrance, with the oak panelled snug on the left being most attractive. An open plan lounge with fireplace and artificial fire was situated in the left hand side corner. Seating consisted of church pews and some armchairs, this area also had a flagstone floor. Five handpumps, so I went for the Purple Moose Brewery.

Reopened after a major refurb. The pub has been opened up into on large room and the servery has been enlarged to an L-shape. Its been tastefully fitted out and the real ale has been kept with 6 handpumps on the bar serving mostly local beers.

Hidden away from the main road through Heswall. This is quite a nice pub but is on the pricey side. Inside is very brown with the seating area stretched around the bar making two distinct areas. Real ale available. Part of a hotel.
