Brainy Pool left this review about The Lamb
town centre pub with a rather chequered recent history, opening and closing seemingly every few months. Now under new management and freshened up, it’s a far more welcoming place with the brighter interior and faux-Victoriana toned down. The decor and atmosphere are traditional, separation between the two rooms with sports TV in the bar, and a piano and wooden pews in the two-tiered lounge. 6 real ales on and my Ossett Voodoo was pretty good. Good staff and respectable clientele, none of the scrotes that St Helens pubs can easily attract. I’m definitely happy to recommend this one based on this visit.

Our visit here was very short, as the young woman behind the bar didn't know anything about the beers on offer, didn't know that real ales had to be pulled through, wasn't prepared to offer any tasters, and couldn't get in touch with the person who had evidently failed to give her any training before disappearing for the afternoon.

A quaint old pub. There were 5 real ales on on this visit. If you like your Victorian era pubs the Vicky's your aunt.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Olde England
This two roomed Victorian pub built in 1854, which used to be the home of the Evening Star Brewery, until recently. The pub stopped brewing when the management left eight months ago. There where eight handpumps on the bar, with only two in use, serving a couple of regular nationals.
