Heineken really have trampled all over this historic village coaching inn, turning it into what is basically now a modern bar/restaurant. We didn’t leave the main bar area but I didn’t see anything of interest in the interior. At the bar are a range of boring Heineken approved keg plus two Theakstons ales, the XB “wasn’t on anymore” (so why is it still clipped?), the Lightfoot was a bit bananaish but I battled through a couple of pints of it. Rainford is a decent village for a short crawl but I’d probably give this one a miss.

At first glance this looks like its a massive pub but its actually in two parts. The brick building to the right is the restaurant part of the place and is mainly, as you would expect, for diners. The white building to the left is the pubby part. Here it is mainly open plan but there are offshoot areas. Traditional in style and there were a couple of real ales available on my visit but nothing of note as they were standard nationals. Its a pleasant enough place without being anything special.
