Locals pub which looks like it could be fairly nice to sit in the outdoor patio at the front during the summer months. However on a late November evening, this street leading from Lord Street to the Promenade was wet and windswept. So, we were glad to get back indoors.
The pub is fairly open-plan with a pool table off to the left-hand side, where we sat. There was a singer somewhere off to the right-hand side. The pub features in the current Good Beer Guide and it is one which hasn't really attracted me back since my last visit here in 2012. There were 4 cask ales on - Sharp's Winter Solstice, Bass, Bank Top Bad To The Bone & Black Sheep Respire. My Winter Solstice wasn't up to much but service was still rather friendly.
Looks like this is a pub that has upped its game in recent years and judging by the numbers in on a Saturday evening, it's popular locally. Perhaps I was unlucky with my beer of choice but this place could well be worth a try if crawling around Southport.

as below, a large opened out traditional pub with various separate areas around the main bar. Food seems popular here but it’s of the ‘pub doing meals’ variety rather than posh gastro. Two ales on, Theakstons Lightfoot and Bitter. Two fireplaces and cosy feeling inside, plus lots of outside seating at the front. Decent place for a pint.

This is a massive pub with a huge beer garden. It's only just off Lord Street and the promenade, but it's quite well hidden. Several different areas opened up from what was obviously multiple rooms at one time. Friendly barmaid and a pleasant atmosphere. Three beers on the bar, but a pretty pedestrian selection, my pint was in good nick though. Happily call in here again..

I first went in this place after we'd seen Chubby Brown at the theatre up the road in July '86 and it doesn't seemed to have changed a jot.
