With the better of the town's Wetherspoon's (the Willow Grove) having closed in 2023, Southport is just left with the Sir Henry Segrave. It was at least near to our hotel and suited us as a last stop of the night, with it opening until 1am on a Friday and Saturday nights.
Predictably, it was full of drunken youngsters drinking shots just after midnight with a few elderly men who could possibly have been around all day. The atmosphere was lively and I was surprised by the lack of any bouncers. The gents toilets were flooded. So much for the regular toilet checks you often see ticked off.
On the bar, regular cask ales are Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best, Moorhouse's Pendle Witches Brew & Marston's Wainwright Gold. Guests on this occasion were Oakham Citra, Moorhouse's Tangled Lights, Peerless Oatmeal Stout, Exmoor Exmas, Hawkshead Dry Stone Stout & Coach House Blunderbus.
It was a bit chaotic in here but it was a good venue for a nightcap.

The Sir Henry Segrave is an older style Spoons with split level interior and plenty of seating. Two banks of hand pulls for cask at the bar - I went for the Titanic Black Ice, which was fine.
Full of feral kids and pensioners, with the bratlings making this visit less relaxing than it could have otherwise been. Service felt a little chaotic but that is perhaps to be expected as the pub was busy.

far busier than the Willow Grove, the other Spoons in town, on this Wednesday night. but I much prefer the Grove. if you're a fan of JDW and everything they're about, you'll love this place. drab outdated decor, one vast room with no atmosphere, slow tedious service and good range of cheap beer. for me a pub is about far more than the beer and I hated it here.

This is a more old school JDW but like its neighbour consists of a large L shaped room in a corner building. The room here is split level with the bar area at the rear on the higher level. It has fairly typical fixtures and fittings and was doing a good trade at around midday on a Wednesday.
The bar has twelve hand pumps which had one available soon, the JDW Trio Of Doom, Thwaites / Marston Wainwright & Rat Race, Phoenix Wobbly Bob, Parker Centurion Pale, Red Star Formby Blonde & Hurricane, Kelham Island Pale Rider and Moorhouse Pendle Witches Brew. I went for the Wobbly Bob (£2.29) which was as good as I've ever tasted it. It's GBG 2017 listed and What Pub seems to prefer this but I marginally preferred the Willow Grove but not enough to give a different score. Southport is somewhere I would definitely return to.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Sir Henry Segrave (JD Wetherspoon)
Fairly standard 'spoons, albeit with the various seating / dining areas on slightly different levels and arranged in a way to break up the large 'L'-shaped bar. Not too adventurous selection of real ales on the ten handpumps, but there were a few local beers such as the Dunscar Bitter (£2.19).

Medium sized JDW by numbers, but with the unusual feature of the toilets not being miles away. A good selection of ales on the bar and very busy on our Sunday afternoon visit. Lots of raised areas give this one more of a multi roomed feel. Small patio area at the front on Lord Street.

A largish Wethers that is always popular. Standard Wetherspoons decor and bar. Service not quite as fast as Seagraves car though.

This Spoons is housed in the Pavillion Buildings and is named in honour of Sir Henry Seagrave, who in 1926 held the land speed record of 152 mph. The pub consists of all the perimeter seating areas at street level, with the main area of the pub on a raised area.
12 ales on handpump, we went for the George Wright Cheeky Pheasant and George Wright Calypso. The regular early doors locals we were sat near were friendly and chatty.

Average size Wetherspoons laid out in the usual fashion with standard seating, and metallic chairs on the front of the busy main street. Its very average Wetherspoons, however its tidy and the service seems efficient. As well as this there are 12 real ales which are kept very well which pushes the score up here for me.
