An ecletic mix of customers gather in The Swan, some attracted by the heavy metal juke box, others by the range of real ales.8 handpumps were visible but only 6 were operating on my brief visit, with a selection of micobrewery offerings. My Boggarts Cascade had turned but was replaced without fuss. The interior is quite basic and the rear of the downstairs bar has quite vivid red lighting, but the juke box was only playing at modest volume. There is an upstairs bar,keg only, with small tables and stools but this wasn't operating afterwork on a Friday.

Loved this 2011 Good Beer Guide pub with its heavy metal music that was at an enjoyable volume, and the excellent range of real ales. Could have stayed here for a few it felt so friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed a Skinners beer Splendid Tackle, and Liverpool Organic Honey Blond. Friendly staff who know their beer. Had Gertie Sweet ex Hanby Cherry Bomnb on, but at 6% had to give this one a miss. Will be back.

The pub is noted for being popular with heavy metal fans and goths, however plenty of old codgers like myself in there but not many yoofs or students last time I was in. Lighting in the downstairs bar is kept low and the juke box volume kept high. Long queue at the bar mainly due to a short barmaid not being able to reach the glasses shelf! Soon got a pint though which was well worth the short wait. Great range of beers always on, too many to list. Usually very good quality beer, reasonably priced and can be fun to visit.
