A down to earth locals corner pub, no real ale on during my visit and not sure if that's a permanent state of affairs or not, probably one best left to the locals.

can't compete with the pubs next door to it but it's still a decent enough Dale Street boozer. nice enough inside with different styles of seating in a virtually open plan layout. I was surprised to find two real ales on the bar to be honest, Doom Bar and Cumberland today. the latter was drinkable, just. had a nice chat to some German communists, maybe this pub is famous there!

Has now reopened. No change interior wise though there is now real ale available. There are 4 handpumps on the bar but only one is in use at the moment, sadly that beer is Doom Bore, but its a start at least.

Situated between The Hole In The Wall and Rigbys this, though a fine looking corner pub, is a bit of a damp squib. As noted it doesnt do real ale and isn't in any rush to either. Pictures of ships from days gone by including a piece on Titanic bloke J Bruce Ismay. A party of Germans were in on this visit and I had a bizarre conversation with a Borussia Moenchengladbach fan about the merits, or lack of, Dean Friedman. If its real ale only you want then the ones either side would be a better bet.

I walked in to this pub last week, observed the empty handpulls, turned round and walked back out, seemingly unnoticed by the barman despite the pub being very quiet. I guess as Ray says below they are used to ale drinkers doing this, so used in fact that they no longer notice it at all.

A fine looking pub from the outside and kept well - also has hanging flower baskets, so you would imagine this pub would be offering some fine ales. I've been in a couple of times recently, but still the brass handpumps remain dormant. The manageress must get quite a few ale drinkers looking in each week and walking straight back out.

Dreadful! - The only real ale (Deuchars IPA) was totally undrinkable and I was refused an alternative. You won't see me back again!

Between the Hole in the Wall and Rigbys/Lady of Mann in Dale St, a lesser and duller pub than any of those three. A fine victorian exterior and hints of victorian grandeur inside, high ceilings, lincrusta wallpaper to the dado level, wrought iron bars on the windows other wise a fairly bland modernish décor. The usual screens on a music channel and fruit machine in the front section of what was obviously a two bar set up in the distant past, the rear section with a separate door onto Hackins Hey is a bit quieter and more lounge like albeit with a dart board hidden in one corner. Nautical themed pictures through out with the front page of the New York Times reporting the sinking of the Titanic taking pride of place. Four unused handpumps on the bar including a nice original looking set of three, the beer range is a standard non descript UK keg offering; Tetleys, Carling, Carlsberg, Becks, Stella, Guinness, and Gaymers for the cider. Furnished with traditional brown pub tables, chairs and stools, the customers were a mix of mainly male 30 to 60 somethings.
