The Houghton Arms is a Marston’s pub with a cobbled area with picnic tables out front and a much larger astroturf area with picnic tables in the old car park to the left. A Sky Sports banner hangs outside, so I wasn’t surprised to see televisions throughout inside. The locals were split between bar stools along the L-shaped bar counter across the rear wall and the front raised seating area where the older locals were watching horse racing with a bit of banter amongst themselves. Oddly the racing was muted while background music played. Standard keg was available alongside San Miguel and the three hand pumps were all drawing Pedigree. The service was friendly so I’d pop back in if passing.

A nice enough one roomed pub. 3 handpumps on the bar but only Burton Bitter on. A raised area is opposite the bar. Newspapers available to read but black marks as one of them was the S*n. A pleasant enough place for a quick drink.

Slightly set back from the very busy Oldham Road this is a one roomed pub with two distinct areas. The bar is to the left as you enter and the lounge to the right. The lounge is quite comfortable whilst the bar is more aimed at vertical drinking. 3 handpumps on the bar all badged with Marston's Burton Bitter which was in good nick. They sometimes have a second beer on from the Marston's extended stable. There's a jukebox and Sky Sports, there's also a large beer garden. It's a decent pub, but I'd get fed up of drinking Burton Bitter.
