Blue Scrumpy left this review about Cockerel
Now called the Oak, this pub in the quiet village of Castle Camps has a number of accommodation units, a car park and a garden to the rear of the property.
Indoors, there are a couple of rooms. I believe everybody was congregated in the public bar to the left. There were a couple of people playing pool towards the rear of the room, a couple of old boys getting merry on what looked like the Greene King Abbot (the other beer was Greene King IPA), a bloke and his wife who were recounting their recent trip to London and another guy who created a bit of a stink in the gents, which got the woman complaining and asking why he couldn't do a poo at home!
The old boys invited me to sit down with them at the "community table", which I duly did with my half of Weston Rosie's Pig cider. They were discussing how quiet it was, but were happy to see that there were more humans in than dogs on this particular evening. The 2 dogs that were present were roaming happily around the pub. One had a hairball, which prompted the one guy to question whose hairs it had been eating!
I braved the gents toilet before departing, whilst considering that it is often the people that make a pub what it is. In this case, this was certainly true. A friendly village local, that also deserves credit for offering a real cider.
