Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Black Horse

After visiting 8 fairly average Cambridgeshire pubs, I struck gold with this village local. This is the best new (as in new for me) pub I've visiting for quite a few months and would easily make my top 100 for the UK.

It has a couple of small rooms, a dining room to the left and a bar to the right. Both have bare boards. There was also a small garden to the rear, supposedly with petanque.

The pub seems to be a real focus for the community with lots of events, including an open mic night, a quiz and curry night and a culinary club. I noticed a notice in the gents also stating that the local Cambridge cider group meets here too.

I was initially spoilt for choice between the pub's 3 cask ales - Moon Gazer Frisky Legs, Mighty Oak Due South & Full Circle Stout, until I enquired if they had any ciders. A list was suddenly produced - Blue Barrel Trees Are Good & Sherwood Blend, Cambridge Cider Company Turing's Byte & Much Merriment, Crone's User Friendly & Whisky Cask, Cromwell's Oliver's Session & Last Gasp, Downham Vicious Pigeon, Green Fen Original, Salted Caramel Cider & Lady of the Fen, Udders Orchard Katkin & The Udderside, Snail's Bank Fruit Bat & Watergull Orchards Discovery & Strawberry Cider. I think there were a total of 8 ciders I hadn't previously sampled, in addition to a large bottled selection also on the list.

Craft beers on were Nene Valley Business Time & Anspach & Hobday London Black. In addition, there was a list of alcohol-free beers and a list of hot drinks available. Beers could be taken away and the landlord was serving an array of cocktails to mark Valentine's Day. These were proving to be very popular.

I sensed a real pride amongst the community having this pub at their disposal. It's Good Beer Guide listed. This pub is a real gem.
