Three cask offerings of their own quaffs in this McMullen establishment, the Drift Fresh Pale Ale, the AK Original Mild and the Country Best Bitter. Keg options of Cruz, Moretti, Fosters, Estrella, Aspall, Stella, Guinness, SIPA from Rivertown, which I think is a McMullen brand.
I was going to suggest this venue was not E4 but EN9, but the staff reliably told me part of the pub is in E4, as recorded on here, in which case it must be the most northerly of pubs with a London postcode, and an E one rather than an N one! It is a corner plot with ample parking at the rear and there is plenty of outside picnic bench seating on paving and grass (on a slope) at the front and right-hand side, some of which is covered at the front of the venue. Inside it is L shaped with the bar counter following the inside shape of the venue. There is some tall stool seating on a ceramic tiled skirt around the bar counter. To the left of the front entrance, it is bare boarded with a mix of tall and regular tables and chairs. A screen on the left-hand wall was showing typical terrestrial game show programming on my visit absent sound. To the right of the front entrance there are some regular tables opposite that side of the bar counter, with the tables the other side of a wooden balustrade laid for diners. There are some regular tables and chairs in the right angle of the L opposite the corner of the bar counter set aside for drinkers on a stone tiled flooring, with a nice corner window aspect. Regular tables and chairs all laid for diners in a generally carpeted area opposite the other side of the bar counter and beyond its end in an area overlooking the rear car park.

This is a large pub with a weatherboard exterior painted in white and powder blue. It is a shame the stone chimney is painted powder blue. Inside it attempts to look old, with beams etc. Well laid out and clean. We would visit again.

The Plough is another large McMullens food orientated pub on the corner of Sewardstone Road and Mott Street. It was built in the early 80’s when McMullens closed down a much smaller nearby pub of the same name and turned it into a residential house. The white and blue weather boarded exterior may fool the casual observer into thinking that this place is a harvester, but it is far better than that. Internally it is large and in several sections, and although it can get busy at weekends with families who come for the carvery, you can usually find a quiet place for a pint.
The beers are the usual McMullens cask ales and have always been well kept in my experience.
There is no real garden, but substantial out door bench seating to the front side and back, and the patio area to the back of the pub on the Mott Street side is actually a good place for a relaxing outside pint away from the main Sewardstone road.
