Tris C left this review about The Lighthouse
Once a Grand Met/Watney’s house by 1991 and earlier, with a substantial rear addition, this dates from at least the mid-19th century as the Railway Arms (later Iceland, given that it’s at the junction of Iceland Road) and renamed Lighthouse in 2005. Just to the north of the Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach, bleak and backstreet doesn’t do justice to the location as it’s hard to find, in an area defined by mass storage facilities and light industry, increasingly diminishing as swanky blocks of flats continue to wend their way skyward.
This is a spectacularly bland pub, modernised inside, with glowing accoutrements, sport, a pool table and Jamaican food. But on approach at 8.40pm of a Sunday night, I was confronted by the electrically operated shutter descending over the door, despite the advertised 10.00pm closing time; perhaps it’s just the effect I have on places?
I wonder if any future reviewer will receive the same familial ‘G’night Jim Bob’ rejection, 80 minutes prior to the advertised closing time?
