With old Courage lettering to leaded lights above the doors (‘Lounge’ and ‘Saloon Bar’), the interior is ‘L’-shaped, with bare boarded floor, dark grey wainscoting, pale grey or bare brick walls and egg yolk yellow Anaglypta ceiling. The bar back and front look suitably original and attractive, less so the large TVs showing silent sport, unwatched due to there being just two other customers playing darts on my mid-Friday evening visit. Furniture is conventional, tall or standard with décor comprising just flags of the Six Nations, all to a decent soundtrack on the gramophone.
There was one partly obscured pump with a reversed Doom clip which I’d not have chosen even if it hadn’t been, so it was a half of Neck Oil at £3.40, served by an incredibly friendly barman.
This is a basic underused place. With plaster to the walls reinstated, TVs off and some customers in, this could be a very nice pub with the addition of a decent cask choice. It’s certainly better than the Old Sergeant, but the Tír na nÓg is preferable.

Good friendly pub, good natured banter between the staff & customers. Comfortable seating. No real ale though.
