Whilst this is the Prince Alfred on here it definitely sees itself as the Alfred it seems on here and also on Google maps!

Traditional pub with a large bar dominating the interior and seating all around including some wingback and well worn armchairs on the left hand side as you walk in. Some high tables around the front and right hand sides with a pool table at the back of the pub that seemed to have the most interest for inters here on my visit a bit before 7pm. There is a dart board just inside of on of the entrance doors so hope the dart thrower doesn’t get too distracted if you walk in through that door!

There were a couple of hand pumps, one turned round and the other seducing me with the offer of Courage Best. Sadly it wasn’t actually on but I suspect it would have taken a good dose of courage to down one of those in here! Plenty of beige lager choices but Guinness was always going to be the sensible choice here. It ticked the box and made this another average 5 for Sydenham.

The landlord was a character and definitely added to my enjoyment of being here for 30 mins or so offering voiceovers and impressions to a decent standard of pretty much everything broadcast on the ceiling height TV that dominated the part of the pub that wasn’t the pool table zone. Not the best of Sydenham but not the worse one other. So far it is a set of average pubs plus the Dolphin still!

Late Dec 2016 visit which was my first on a Friday afternoon that started a pub crawl of all of Sydenham's pubs and bars.

2 hand pumps but only the one with Breakspear's Bitter was actually on, it was a bit ropey as a pint but was drinkable. Looking around the pub that was full of blokes everyone appeared to be drinking lager so I guess the ales don’t sell too well, hence the condition.

A largish pub that has a Pool table, juke box, several tv’s and a couple of fruit machines.

Stayed for 1 pint before moving on, friendly enough.

The Alfred is a stand alone pub which is situated at what i would call the bottom end of Sydenham.
Once inside there is a single room which is wrapped around the bar on three sides, the right side extends further to the rear and has a pool table and dars board, the room is bare boarded and for some strange reason all seating is tall tables and stools making it a pretty uncomfortable pub to have a drink in,there was a TV to the front left showing the Arsenal v Chelsea game.
There was one real ale on the bar which was Brakspear bitter, this was a decent enough drink.
This was probably the worst of the pubs i visited in Sydenham and i also forgot to take a photo of it.

This is a bit of a cluttered no frills corner pub that has a local working class crowd. I spotted three hand pumps, but the Abbot was off and the other two pumps were unused leaving a standard draught selection. I had a decent pint of Guinness from the talkative barmaid who was engaged in some banter with the locals during my week night visit. Basic food is served and there were advertisements up for Chicago Town pizzas that would have come straight from the freezer.

There are a couple of plasma screens for showing the football on Sky Sports and there is also a pool table and dartboard at the rear of the pub.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to drink here again.
