This pub dates from the end of the 18th century, this incarnation dating from 1883 in quite a grand style.
The interior can be seen on Google, but it has a modern boarded floor, columns with Corinthian capitals to a coffered ceiling. Furniture is modern and quite industrial with tubular steel-legged tables, some trendy prints, décor in the form of a few knickknacks and cut flowers to quite loud music. There were only three customers on my arrival who left shortly after; three more graced the picnic table out front.
If I’m ignored by staff for more than five minutes, I usually leave a pub, but at around the 4 minutes and 50 second mark, the barmaid lifted her gaze from her phone to acknowledge my existence, telling me that they were about to close, but that she could fit me in; how kind and at 8.45pm on a Wednesday too. I should have walked, given that the ale selection amounted to just two pumps with clips reversed, me going for a Punk IPA at a surprisingly reasonable £3.20 a half.
In an area with quite a few pubs and all doing a good trade, this place is a bit sad; the building’s ok even if the furniture isn’t, but the ludicrous opening times (last orders called at 8.50pm), couldn’t-be-arsed attitude to cask beers and customers, mean I won’t be returning.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Crown
Notably high-ceilinged pub with dark wooden flooring, low height wood panelling and mixed semi-modern furniture. Upstairs function room (not visited). Small front terrace with wooden benches and rear patio beer garden set down a few steps. Three real ales on handpump: the regular Deuchars IPA and Tribute plus Theakston Infallible (£3.40) as a guest.
