An attractive looking spot with a few benches at the front facing the green, inside there is a large island bar, wooden floors, brick fireplaces. The ceiling and cornices are elaborate as are the chandeliers, various bits and bobs on the walls and in display cases including toby jugs, shelves of books and a selection of games. There are candles in bottles on the tables, overall, it looks like some effort has been spent to make this an attractive spot. Unfortunately, despite having two banks of three handpumps, only one was on, Doom Bar as well, GK IPA reversed, the others unclipped. Lots of rather industrial language flying around too, perhaps still some work to do.
The rather unusual and possibly unsettling name comes from the one time patrons who worked at a fireworks factory somewhere nearby. Today's customers have a bit of an Irish bias, GAA games are advertised and the racing was on the TV.

This is a fairly basic boozer. There were two pumps, clipped for Bomabardier and Courage Best, but neither ales were on. An annoying start to my visit, especially as the clips remained un-reversed during my visit. It does annoy me when pubs do this. If the clips remain in view then all it says to me is that if I had visited at some other time I might have got a pint of something that I wanted to drink. But perhaps the clips are only for show; I didn’t get the opportunity to ask as the landlady conducted a conversation on her mobile ‘phone as she was serving me.
OK, rant over. The pub’s bare-boarded; furnishings are a mixture of red and green banquettes, normal chairs, with metal framed tables. There is some outside seating in front of the pub, in an enclosed courtyard area. It had something of a 70s look, enhanced by the now rarely seen wrought iron bar gantry. There’s a dartboard, but otherwise, apart from the unusual and perhaps unique name, there’s really nothing to recommend this pub.
