This pub dates from around 1746, rebuilt in 1907 by Harrison & Ward and grade II-listed; it’s set back from the high street, meaning that on approach from the Royal Oak, you can’t actually see it.
The interior has been mauled and would appear to be more of a restaurant than pub, with a keg array that’s feeble even by the standards of feeble keg arrays. Indeed, their Facebook page describes the place as being a [Portuguese] tapas bar and restaurant. Customers at the time of my late Friday evening visit appeared to amount to a Brazilian party with trestle tables laid with linen; as I felt like I was intruding into someone’s shindig, I decided to leave; the less-than-satisfactory Royal Oak is next door, the underground a short walk likewise.

No cask, an amazingly bland multi-tap lager offering of Stella, Corona, Heineken, Bud and Fosters, the Heineken tap doubled up but academic as they were both non dispensing.
Another L shaped venue that is a shadow of any former glory it might have had. There is some outside seating via picnic benches only partially shielded from the busy main road out front. It is bare boarded, with the bar servery following the shape of the L! The front bar retains some of the original features such as (probably) the bar counter and some of the wood panelling but looks like there has been a lot of reconstruction using chipboard. There is a stage on the right-hand wall and the front part to the side of the bar counter is densely packed with traditional tables and chairs. Most pleasant part to sit on during my v short visit is the small row of traditional tables and chairs in the front. A couple of TV's were showing recording of the Sporting Lisbon game v Braga from yesterday. The rear area behind the bar was similarly furnished and probably where diners get directed to, a green neon sign on the rear wall proclaimed the name of the venue as the traditional pub sign on the outside was absent, so you’ve either headed here for a tick like me or you find out the name when you get inside – saying that I suspect most who come here could find the place blindfolded.
