In the early 1980s this pub was a grim affair with vinyl covered seats and strip lighting which was suspended from the ceiling by chains. It was revamped around 1990 with the internal layout reordered and the addition of a fake 19th century façade to the bar area. Floral wallpaper was applied and multiple TVs made an appearance; an improvement but still not very nice.

It closed in the mid-2000s.

This used to be a lively pub that the local public schoolboys and girls used to frequent at the weekends when the music got louder and there was the odd theme night. I remember karaoke being on one night of the week, but I used to avoid here then. There were screens throughout for showing the football and I remember sitting in here very early one June morning in 2002 watching England v Nigeria which ended up in a 0-0 draw.

An interesting fact about this pub is that it is located in front of the old Hampstead brewery which ran from 1720 until 1931 and it used to service this pub.

As noted below, this is now a branch of Reiss which is a clothing outlet.
