A gastro pub and Butchers shop in one which was extremely busy on a Saturday lunchtime, the food looked top end as indeed were the prices. If there are no spare tables drinkers are welcomed to sit at the bar, two cask beers on offer with a choice of Rebellion IPA or Greene King Abbot. It's not a bad little place but you need to pick the right time to have a look.

A one-time pub converted into a butcher's shop-cum-pub, with a nicely designed interior, successfully feeling quite old-style but obviously not. A long meat counter is followed by a bar counter serving the house Hand & Flowers IPA and Rebellion Smugglers. A cool cabinet under the bar offered an enticing range of home-made pies and scotch eggs; the pork pie was exceptional. The main change to previous reviews is that the pub part is now open all day. Live music and other entertainments are provided occasionally, but goodness knows where as it is not large. Worth a visit for the novelty value. And the pies.

A pub/butchers hybrid! I had read about it in the Times a while ago and a trip to Marlow allowed for investigation.
On Saturdays, its a bar all day - as well as a Butchers of course. I was there about 2:30pm. I don't know what it says about other Marlow pubs, but it was packed. No a free table to be had.
Two hand pulls on - Rebellion Gold and a Greene King labelled "hand and flowers". Gold was in OK condition. The meat looked much better. Sausage rolls in a chiller next to the till could not be ignored. £7.50 when added with the pint.
Too small to be comfortable but an interesting experience.

A third Tom Kerridge hostelry in this well-heeled Thames-side town after The Hand & Flowers and The Coach. As noted below, this operates as a butchery until 5pm, becoming a pub thereafter. Smaller than previous incarnations (The Carpenters Arms and O'Donoghue's) this has a deep marble-topped servery against the right-hand wall, almost taking up half the internal space, with a smattering of tables and chairs opposite, although there is an alcovey bit by the front window. Black and white tile effect floor, part-wooden walls with part black tiles and three small flatscreen TVs amongst some butching paraphernalia (there's meat also hanging in the front window). Two ales on - local Rebellion Smuggler (£4) and "Hand & Flowers IPA" (there's a GK sign outside, so take a guess). Slightly overloud muzak in the Jack Johnson vein (yawn) and the overall impression is of somewhere to avoid feline-swinging if there's more than a handful of people in.

Bought by Tom Kerridge it will operate as a butchers during the day and from 5pm onwards, will turn into a pub offering “simple, meat-led” food, with beers on tap, as well as wine, spirits and community nights.

Basic L-shaped Greene King owned Oirish boozer. Wood floor, greyish paint job. Rear area has locals marker pen graffiti on the ceiling, unusual but oddly compelling. Dog friendly, live music. Three ales and interestingly no GK fayre - Hooky, Rebellion Smuggler and a pretty disappointing Purity UBU. Friendly - if robust - patrons. It's OK for what it is.

It has been bought and refurbished as O'Donoghues Irish Ale House. Owned and operated by Eileen O'Donoghue. Re-Opened Easter 2009.

I would say it looks alot brighter now someone else has taken over. Last few months I've seen it go further down and down.
Nice and clean in there too ! Your feet no longer stick to the floor like it did with previous landlord.
A pub where everyone knows each other, nice and never short of laughter !

When we visited this pub it was called the Carpenters Arms a proper name and it was also a decent looking pub from the outside.
Once inside the pub was fairly small and had a cosy feel to it,the pub was a greene King tied house and there were three real ales on the bar we had a drink of Green King IPA this was ok but a bit bland the other beers were GK Abbot and Morland bitter.
I thought this was a fairly decent pub to have a couple of drinks in.
