Strongers . left this review about White Bear

The White Bear is a small pub with a banquette and tables across the bowed front windows and a mix of high and normal height tables up the right-hand wall. At the rear is a wood panelled alcove with green high banquettes and tables arranged in a U-shape. The walls throughout have a mix of red tiling and brown textured wallpaper that felt like it had been heavily varnished, I wasn’t sure if I liked or hated it. Premium, craft and mainstream craft keg were available, so I went for half a Jubel which set me back £4. The toilets and a small depressing bar with a couple of draught lagers are found downstairs. The service was polite and I liked the 90s club music in the background, but I didn’t see anything that will draw me back here.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about White Bear

Traditional single-bar pub, dating from 1899, with an airy feel due to the high ceiling and large front bow window. Relatively little furniture, so plenty of space for vertical drinking. Just Doom Bar (£4.50) available from the brace of handpumps, with the other having a reversed Greene King IPA clip.

Dating back at least 225 years and rebuilt in 1899, externally this pub appears to be a grand affair, but appearances can be deceptive.
Internally this is quite small with a bare boarded floor, small side bar with a tiled apron and a 'cream of mushroom soup' colour scheme; lavatories open directly onto the pub floor. Furniture is mixed with some sofas and bar stools; with a couple of modern artworks on the wall, it's all a bit plain and the two flat TV screens along with the huge projector screen didn't appeal, sport playing with the sound down.
However this is a friendly, family run pub with a couple of small dogs and sleeping cat, which serves food but it's more lasagne and burgers than gastro.
Ales: Sharp's Doom Bar and of varying quality.
In all, there's much better to be had locally, but this place has its devotees and sadly will close in January 2018.

Closed at weekends.

Quinno _ left this review about White Bear

Small pub that has been internally pillaged by dodgy knock-throughs and half-baked refurbs. Staple shaped, poorly laid out with little in the way of seating. Modern board flooring, nasty off pink walls and a generally grimy feel with the lack of rear lighting not helping. Sky Sports News on mute. Background whiff of old fruity vomit (I really hope it wasn’t). Two pumps but just Doom Bar on, mildly shocked to get it for under 2 quid a half but the quality was pedestrian. Food-wise, it looks a better bet as there was a sensible pub grub on laminated menus, a basic burger was priced at £6.40. It isn’t much good in here, really.

A minimalist, wooden floored, pseudo gastro pub. Just GK IPA. One plasma TV showing some sort of antiques roadshow rubbish that the landlord seemed to be enjoying. Just me and one other in.
