A modernised place with a slight continental feel, perhaps due to the opening window frontage. It is fairly bright inside with modern furnishings and extends back to a restaurant area. The bar held 4 handpumps, offering Old Golden Hen and the GK house ale but sadly both proved to be completely undrinkable in a spell of hot weather. To his due the barman tried them and agreed, then offered anything from the fairly mundane collection of GK keg taps. If the beer was ok it would have been pleasant enough.

This pub dates back to at least the mid-19th century when it was known as the Rising Sun, where apparently in 1905, Chelsea FC was founded here, Stamford Bridge being opposite.
Despite being a Greene King outlet, this is a very heavily modernised pub, with bifold frontage, new boarded floor, mid grey walls with a white ceiling housing aircon units. The bar is metal topped, the back being of bare brick with tubular steel shelving. Lighting is modern and furniture is modern of mixed styles, with some fluted fawn banquettes to part of the perimeter and at least two tables fashioned from grey painted oil drums. Décor amounts to trendy framed prints and football played on two TVs with the sound down, so as not to compete with bland muzak, sounding like the stuff that’s played in a branch of McDonald’s.
Ales amounted to two unused pumps, GK IPA and Landlord at £2.75 a half and not bad.
This pub is ok for a swift pint, but it’s in a bit of a backwater location and the Fox & Pheasant up the road is vastly superior.

Greene King pub with no real ale of any note. Usual keg stuff on offer. Point deducted for a child running free round the place.
