We were intending to break a run up the M40 at the Royal Standard but the car park was chocka with people enjoying their last pub visit for a month and we suspected it might not be all that Covid safe. So we nosed around the lanes and ended up here. All beams and whatnot as K reports below. Still a Chef and Brewer so GK related beers, we had Zombie Curse which was better than I thought it was going to be, expecially as it was half price what with there being six hours left to sell it.
It's OK for what is, and there's a lovely view over the valley from the car park. Pity you have to stand in the car park to enjoy it.

A characterful pub on the way out of Penn towards Beaconsfield which is under the clutches of the Chef & Brewer chain. It retains some nice Olde Worlde trappings, with some nice exposed beams and various rooms all at differing levels, although it has had enough of a makeover to shunt it into the 21st Century. GK IPA, St Austell Tribute and GK / Morland Old Hoppy Hen comprised the three-ale line-up, with the latter coming in at £4.00 a pint. Radio 1-style muzak seemed a little unnecessary and The Horse & Jockey and Red Lion remain the better bets in the two villages.
