Graham Coombs left this review about The Generals Arms

Apart from the morning drinkers, it doesn't feel much like an ex-Spoons now and is not unpleasant. Lots of painted woodwork, some rather kitsch wallpaper and artistic lighting give a homely feel to the single large room. To the side is a sort of yard opening into the car park, while there are pavement tables to the front. Beers on were London Pride, GK IPA and Abbot but saved by a well-conditioned Tring Colley's Dog.

Not anymore it ain't. OK, so it's had a makeover, there's now piped music, TV screens showing live sports (on mute) and dartboard was even spotted, but there's the same bar counter, similar drinks offers ("double up on selected spirits for £1.35) and same Spoons-type clientele. A half of Vale Gravitas was £1.95 and was joined by a yawn-worthy band of supplicants including Courage, Abbot, IPA and CW Bombardier Glorious English.
