The table service thing is a bit odd, when the barman is standing around doing nothing, while you sit at a table waiting for a server. But everyone is very pleasant and I was served within two minutes of arrival, and given the small bar counter, perhaps it's a good system. There are two beers and a Rosie's cider on the five hand pumps, the beers being from Bakers Dozen, Sinc and Electric Landlady, which was always how I thought of Jimi Hendrix's magnum opus, so it was an easy choice for me. I don't think it's a very good beer, to be honest. My temporary table companion (because everyone has to have a table) had obviously suffered in the downpour an hour before, so I asked him about his walk. He was backpacking with a tent and hadn't booked a camp site, so was hoping to find a willing farmer to offer him a corner of a field. I wished him luck, and thanked whoever's in charge that my packbacking days are well behind me.

“Silly table service, poorly executed” is all I have in my notes, I decided to walk on as I didn’t have the patience to fiddle about with their Jamaican attitude when there were plenty of other options on a time-limited afternoon. GBG listed.

There is still a table service policy in this pub, which I get as the interior space is quite limited and I suppose its easier to have people seated than crowding around the small bar area. Four ales on handpump, Grainstore and three from Bakers Dozen Brewery Sinc Stream, Straight Outta Ketton and Cuthbert's Fee.
I went for the Bakers Dozen Sinc Stream, a classic English Bitter, which was very good. Staff were friendly and obliging.

An old looking one room affair with a rear garden, it has five pulls plus craft kegs. Although visiting in August 2022 it still imposed table service only, this varied from poor to good depending on how tied up the staff were. An interesting selection of beers and reasonably kept, a numbered list appears on a beam near the front door.

A nice old stone pub, with a little courtyard garden behind and local ales on offer. Pleasant without being exceptional.

A cosy old pub in the heart of Stamford. First impressions were “are they open” as the solid, wooden door was firmly closed. On pushing it open and squeezing through the narrow opening though, you find yourself in an attractive single room pub with sagging ceilings and plenty of black wooden beams and a couple of wooden support pillars to hold everything up.
The bar counter is off to the left and this is a smallish area with a few tables and chairs. To the right is a marginally bigger area with the seating being mostly low bar stools and small round tables, plus some green leather bench seating in the bay window. The flooring is reclaimed boards and there is also some exposed stonework on the walls, although much of it has been clad in wood panelling below with some newish looking plaster above. This room also has a wood burning stove in the fireplace and a plasma stuck on the wall, although this was off on a recent visit. Instead they had some low background music on which was much more agreeable.
Food is only served at lunch times, as seems to be the case with most of the pubs in Stamford, if they do food at all. Beers on this occasions were Woodford Wherry, Abbot Ale, London Pride and Timothy Taylor Landlord. Ciders were Aspall’s Suffolk and Strongbow.
