Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Dog & Bone
Old-school, side-street local now owned by Batemans. Retains a separate bar and a smaller lounge area on each side of the central servery, both with a traditional look (although the counter is obviously newer). Normally has a larger selection of cask ales, but just XB and Salem Porter (£2.20, half) available from the bank of six handpumps, together with a couple of ciders.

The Dog & Bone is a backstreet boozer found at the end of a row of terraced housing. The pub is split in two with a carpeted study like area with sofas and stuffed book shelves to the right of the entrance. The left-hand floorboarded side houses an exposed brick bar counter up the right that faces seating in the front window and up the left-hand wall. At the rear is a dartboard the was being used by the barmaid and the two other customers who were in early doors on a recent Thursday. The television was off and the jukebox was supplying some background music. A limited range of standard keg was available alongside San Miguel and I counted six hand pumps that were drawing Bateman’s XB, XXXB, Yella Belly and Jewel in the Crown alongside Wychwood’s Hobgoblin and Broadoak’s Moonshine Cider. The left-hand wall is plastered with old pump clips so I imagine the two guests are regularly changed. Yes it was quiet during my visit, but there was still a good atmosphere, so I came away thinking that this is a decent local.

Decent enough Bateman's pub with bar in the middle. Rooms to left and right and a pleasant beer garden to the rear. Six real ales on, the best of which was Bateman's XXXB. Worth a return.

This is a lively back street local, situated mid-terrace but with a handy sign on the street corner pointing the way for anyone in doubt. The original two door entrance has long since been reduced to one, the former layout of public and lounge having long ago succumbed to the modern fashion of one room with a central bar. There are seven hand pumps, with four beers from Batemans including the Dark Mild, a guest beer (Black Sheep Imperial Stout) and two pumps selling cider and perry.
We enjoyed our visit here, but went on to call in at a couple more up the hill - in one of these, our previous visits were discussed around the bar, when we gave the Dog & Bone high praise, little suspecting that our interrogators were the landlord of this pub and his wife. I called back on my way to the station for another half, the intriguingly named Batemans Winter Chocolate Biscuit. Yummy!

Called in on a Saturday lunchtime for a bit of peace and tranquillity away from the madness of the Christmas market shoppers in the City centre.Situated down a side street just outside the City centre the Dog and Bone is entered by Ascending 3 high stone steps, which i could see becoming slightly precarious late at night after a few tipples.Agree with all the comments from the last reviewer especially the beer garden which was a very pleasant area. The barmaid was friendly enough, but did find the beer prices a touch on the expensive side, although must admit the other pubs i visited were of a similar price.

This is a good traditional Batemans pub, situated down a side street in a residential area. The pub consists of a central bar with bar area on the left hand side and the lounge on the right. Has a good size landscaped beer garden, which from the size of the pub was quite a surprise. Serves well kept beers.
