Will Larter left this review about The Red Lion

An impressive reproduction of a half-timbered coaching inn, with a fire station on the far end (yes, really) but once inside it could be any recently refurbished suburban pub in the home counties. It feels like a restaurant rather than a pub; this was reinforced by my half of Timothy Taylor Boltmaker costing me £3.10. To be fair, there is a quiz advertised, and live music occasionally, so it must be more pub-like at times, but at the time of my visit the only table not laid with full sets of cutlery was a high one by a high bench near the bar. The beer was ok, but nothing to write home about (NBSS 2.5) - I don't suppose they sell a lot of it. Service was badly trained and confusingly supervised, though I'm sure they're all very pleasant when not at work. Did I mention the smell of fried fish, and the intrusive background music? It almost goes without saying, doesn't it.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about Red Lion Hotel

The Red Lion is a nice-looking pub in the village of Redbourne. It has a pretty setting next to the village car park and a duck pond. It is also adjacent to the old village fire station, complete with vintage fire truck.

The interior is much more plain. There is seating at the front of the bar itself, with further seating areas at the rear of the bar, making the pub much larger than it initially appears.

It was fairly quiet on our early afternoon visit, with one other family just having finished meals. It was slightly busier outside, with people enjoying the sunshine on picnic tables to the front.

Service is pleasant. But the only real ale on our visit was Black Sheep Best Bitter.
