Another impossibly pretty Rutland pub, it’s a bit of a warren inside with an air of ‘country pub chic’ and indeed it’s a Michelin Star chaser. Mustard yellow walls, scrubbed wood tables and the like. The intriguing curved church seating that has been salvaged caught our eye, as did the Carling Black Label jug and the availability of newspapers. No issues just imbibing here, and the chatty barman gave off the distinct impression that he was pleased to be serving drinkers. Two ales on the go; Woodfordes Reedlighter (good nick) and a house beer of uncertain origin. It strikes a fair balance in the pub-as-restaurant stakes and we were happy enough having a decent beer in here. 6.5
