A Christmas holiday meal with the in-laws meant I found myself in deepest darkest Leicestershire. As mentioned below, this classic old coaching house is now an upmarket eatery but they have retained the tight multi-area’d layout which gives it a charm I wasn’t necessarily expecting. Décor is nice enough with little to scare the horses. A couple of log fires were lit. I think it was five cask they had on the go, 2x of the local Charnwood beers, Vixen (NBSS 4) and Snow Fox (3.5) alongside Taylor’s Landlord, Adnams Broadside and a beer from St Austell that wasn’t one of their usual ones. We ate here and the food was relatively pricey but pretty enjoyable (go for the long-term house favourite of Woodhouse Smokies if I were you). Not bad at all, exceeded my expectations. Mildly surprised it hasn’t made the GBG, actually. 7.5

Lovely looking pub in a lovely location. It's a bit upmarket serving excellent food and superb well kept real ales.Cosy inside with log fires in winter, and a large well used seating area outside which gets busy in the summer.Situated on the edge of the village it has a large car park, staff are very pleasant.Rooms are available.Bus stop outside.
