Interesting looking place from the outside, down a slope from the main road. Inside is a place that was probably quite nice 30 years ago in a traditional manner but has gone to seed a bit (eg the bench seating leans forward and is too shallow) and the attempts at upgrading have been weak (eg the ill-advised paint on the servery, bland modern laminate floor). No surprise then to see that it was up to let and I assume it was a relief manager in charge. At the bar it was just the one cask, a surprisingly decent - in the circumstances - Hobgoblin Gold (NBSS 2.5) with cobs also available. Shepshed has a good enough stock of pubs that means I’ll likely revisit and call in here again to see if the new tenant has been able to make the necessary improvements, as it could be really good. 5.5

The Bull and Bush was a Marstons tied house in 1983,it is a shortish walk from the middle of Shepshed.
