Mildly confusing as the building facing the road isn't the pub, it's actually located in the grand old country manor house behind in the courtyard. Enter via a lovely carved oak wood porch, negotiate the hotel check-in lobby (with further exquisite carved oak panels) and you hit the public bar shortly after. There's a bit of old skool feel in the bar though inevitably it has been blandised over the years. Now owned by Greene King so two of their cask on, Abbot and OGH, the latter of which was barrel-end (NBSS 2). Substantial garden and grounds which would be well-worth a pint in the summer. They could do a lot more here if they tried – and it could be a belter if they did. 5.5
