Will Larter left this review about The Tap House
Previously known as Annwell Inn, Mother Hubbards and the Malt Shovel, The Tap House reflects the fact that a brewery of the same name is piggy-backed onto the long-established Leatherbritches brewery, which after a peripatetic existence has come to rest in an outbuilding here.
The pub is a large, handsome building which is at the roadside some distance from Smisby village. It seems to be something of a destination for people who lunch, and the smell of carvery was strong enough for me to find it off-putting - but then, I am a vegetarian. Equally off-putting was the loudish pop which I hesitate before describing as background music.
There were six hand pumps on the bar, with five Tap House (or Taphouse) brewery beers available at the time of my visit. The missing beer was replaced by Marstons Pedigree. I made a point of including this pub on my cycle ride, as I was interested to see where Leatherbritches had got to, having been familiar with it on visits to Ashbourne in years gone by. I wouldn't think I'll be coming this way again.

The Tap House is a fairly large raodhouse pub that is just south of the village of Smisby.
Once inside the pub has been opened out, there is a L shaped bar area at the front, this is carpeted and had a beamed ceiling, the seating was normal tables and chairs, there was a large area to the rear which was set aside for diners this was empty but the front area was very busy with drinkers.
The Tap House brews its own beers and also has guest beers on,there was also a beer festival taking place in a marquee at the rear of the pub.
There were five real ales on the bar with four coming from the Tap House brewery,we tried two Tap House beers Tap House Gold was a very nice drink and the Tap House Ashby Pride was also quite a nice drink, the other beers were Tap House Malt Teaser and Dark and Dangerous, the guest beer was Pedigree.
The pub was doing a good trade both inside and out.
This pub is worth a visit to try the Tap House beers.
