A roadside inn which has a good local following, just outside the town on a main road. It sits in its own grounds with plenty of parking at the front and a large garden behind. The garden isn’t as peaceful as it might be due to road noise. Inside, the three main rooms have been conjoined to form a single [-shaped bar with a wooden and carpet floor, a 1970s fireplace at one end and large loudspeakers, presumably for live music or other noisy entertainment. There was a cabinet that looked like it might contain a dartboard but it wouldn’t have been usable due to the dining tables around it. It’s a family-centric pub, with free-range children roaming but being well-behaved. The landlord was welcoming but appeared over-worked. Food was cheap and cheerful, basic pub grub, plus they do Sunday roasts and cooked breakfasts on Saturdays. Three pumps on the bar but only one ale on draft, Abbey Ales’s Best Bitter, which was in good condition. There was a tree-like tap dispensing three types of Thatcher’s cider, plus a bank of taps with 3 mega-lagers, John Smith’s, and Guinness. Bottles of Butcombe were also available. It's a decent enough pub and I’d be happy to stop here when the situation arises.

Almost in the mniddle of nowhere but usually full with locals and afficionados who have travelled for great atmosphere, good beer and food to match
