Fairly recently refurbished and the rooms all looked in a good state of repair compared to the Nelson up the road. The locals were very friendly on this visit and I had a good chat with a South African fella about Humphrey. The usual selection of budget priced Sam’s keg, I enjoyed the Alpine lager a lot more than the bitter. toilets are outside across the beer garden which is a bit different. Decent pub nowadays.

Now this is an "interesting" place. Looks just about OK from the outside, but inside is a bit of a tatty mess. That comment also applies to just about all of the punters who were in the pub on my Friday evening visit. It's very raucous and not for the faint hearted. I was definitely the outsider and several people, including the barman, were giving me the evil eye, not that I care really. Contrary to Sam Smiths policy of no swearing, I was surprised to find that quite a lot of it was going on in here :-)) In fact, some of the regulars would have been unable to speak without using a couple of well known words. No real ale and a pint of Old Brewery was £2. It's a dump, but at least it keeps its regulars out of the other pubs in Rochdale.
