Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Continental
Quite an odd-looking pub, with two very different buildings joined at right angles with a polygonal entrance lobby. The main bar / dining area benefits from a conservatory extension and the side lounge offers more general seating. However, on a fine summer evening, the beer garden was a fine place to sit and watch the trains trundle across the towering viaduct over the adjacent River Ribble. Good selection of four real ales (including the Filly Close Blonde from Reedley Hallows, £3.50) and a cider available from five of the six handpumps, and some craft beers on the keg taps.

The Continental can be reached by a 15 minute walk from the station (along Walton's Parade and West Cliff, then by a path on the right which runs parallel to and beneath the railway bridge) or by a more leisurely stroll from the town centre through the park and along the impressive Ribble. Is it worth it, though? There's an impressive array of beers (see photo), and I dare say the food is ok, and the building and garden are well presented. But there's not much of a publike feel to the place, which may suit family groups having a meal, but not so much beer tourists, I would suggest. There's nothing wrong with the beer, but for what is still an out of the way destination, despite my helpful directions, I was left with a bit of an "is that all it is" feeling. Looking again at my photos of the exterior of the amalgamated buildings that make up the pub, I guess I was hoping the interior would be more interesting.

a large destination pub in what seems like a nice area of Preston although not the easiest to find. handy for walks in the massive park and along the river. the pub itself is actually a bit boring considering what I had heard about it, a massive riverside CAMRA/dining barn, a middle class Wetherspoons, I wouldn't rush back unless I was with the family
