Has an odd-sounding name because this is actually a fish restaurant come bar and is located in the same building as the old New College pub. The interior is staple shaped and achingly modern – tiled walls, turquoise paint and hanging lanterns. There are eight kegs on the bar plus a beer wall off (graffitoed with ‘beers’) to the right. Noted that it was the usual inflated prices and deflated measures set-up as with so many craft keg places. Also clocked that everyone was drinking not eating, though a fishy whiff in the air meant that food was being prepared for someone. However it went downhill at the bar where I asked for two Meantime stouts, and got served reds. Had them changed and ended-up with two glasses of flat black murk. As we contemplated our lot (or lack of) they were whipped away by a black uniformed lassie as they “shouldn’t have been served”. To be fair, we then got a free bottle of beer each as compensation, plus our money back as we had to press on. They’ve only been open a few days so it seems unfair to leave a rating as they are still clearly finding their feet. I’d try it again.
December 2005 (as New College)
This place has the fixtures in place to be a great pub but it falls well short. The lonely and ubiquitous London Pride, continuous Sky Sports Extra on the screens with no sound and toilets that smelt like someone had left a brown parcel in a bag underneath a radiator. Not impressed. Rated 3
