A multi-roomed village gastropub that is rather upmarket but given the local clientele that is hardly a surprise. The garden is large and beautifully-kept, ideal for families and summer time pubbing – indeed a large BBQ was being fired up on my early afternoon visit. Three ales available (two from West Berks in the form of GOB and Chubbs as well as White Horse Hi Ho Silver). Prices weren’t quite as steep as I feared for the beer. Sadly the quality of all three was determinedly middling. The interior has the style of a Country Life catalogue, red and black chequerboard flooring and two wood burning fires. Service was very friendly and those of my party who ate were happy with the food. Despite the uninspiring beer quality the pub itself is certainly an admirable place and it’s worth doing on a summer’s afternoon.
