a proper old locals pub in the middle of Westhoughton. Good Holts bitter and a traditional unspoilt interior, but a bit unfocused and in need of some TLC. Pleasant enough beer garden at the back but this is also rather unkempt. Dreadful loud music added to a general feeling that this should be a lot better than it is, Holts usually have these things under control, so maybe one day.

Still the same as described by Steve below. Pretty quiet on a Friday, early evening, but there were still a few in. Hobsons choice of cask ale with just Holts Bitter being available, but this was in decent nick. Another decent enough pub, but with no specisl attraction apart from the tiling.

The White Lion Hotel is a Holts run pub with a tiled central lobby that is faced from the left by a tiled bar counter that has low etched glass sash screens. The bar counter is certainly the main focal point of the pub, although the product range that it supports may put some of with only two hand pumps, both badged with Bitter, and the usual Holts keg. Between the bar counter and the front windows is a long vault and more seating is found at the rear where the counter curves around to the left to a small yellow tiled fireplace and banquette. In the right-hand side of the pub is a front area with banquettes and a dartboard and a rear area with another dartboard, standing room and some DJ equipment. There is a jukebox that was supplying some background music and the televisions throughout were showing muted horse racing. The service was polite and the locals all seemed harmless enough, except for one lad who was absolutely plastered. The staff ended up asking him to leave, this wouldn’t be the last time I bumped into him during my crawl of the area. This place is worth a look, if only for the bar counter.

A Holts pub. 4 rooms with a central bar serving 3 of the rooms. There are two front rooms with the room to the left housing the servery. The small room to the right is like a parlour. To the rear are two more rooms with the rear right room having g a darts board and a table football thingy. There are a total of 4 handpumps on the bar with 2 in the front rooms and two to the side. You will have to bend down to order due to the low glass ledge over the bar.
