Located next to the station, this pub was virtually empty on my Saturday afternoon visit. 3 hand pulls on offer. A strange smell of cabbage inside the pub. A nice conservatory and garden area was present. There were food menus but nobody eating. This pub probably won't survive if today's visit is anything to go by.

This is a tidy, single room local's boozer on a street corner close to the station. The interior comprises a bare boarded space with a wide, quarry stone floored section around the servery, which occupies much of the back wall. The bar has a pleasant counter front with some decorative panels and a rather plain bar back, whilst the rest of the room has dark tongue and groove panelling with pastel shaded uppers and a white, wooden beamed ceiling. The seating is a mix of hard benches in the front window bays and high tables and stools along the wall opposite the bar, whilst the room has been decorated with some contemporary art, an unused TV screen and a dartboard next to a fireplace on the right-hand wall, with a huge plain mirror above. The space opens out a bit to the left where a couple of regular tables and chairs can be found, along with a huge TV screen, also out of use, and what looked like a DJ booth. A board suggests live music is a regular feature and presumably takes place in this part of the pub. A door from here leads out to a beer garden, but I didn't have sufficient time to explore.
On the bar, the handpulls offered Triple fff Moondance and a real cider, with the third pump unclipped. The barmaid was very friendly and poured a decent pint of the Moondance, which I had to knock back quite quickly due to miscalculating when I'd be able to reach the local football club's ground. There were a few others here on a Saturday afternoon, but it was quite quiet and hopefully gets a bit livelier later in the day.
This is a solid, if rather unspectacular pub which benefited from having a non-mainstream ale option and some very friendly service. It feels like a sensible option for anyone with a bit of time to kill before getting a train and worked well enough for me for a quick pre-match pint, but it doesn't feel like somewhere I'd want to stay for a longer session.

A pub of three sections. The main bar as you enter is decorated in a modern but tasteful manner with a musical theme and a swanky conservatory is to the rear side, both dimly-lit (or ‘muted’ if you will). Exit out of this via a decent patio garden into a separate rear games room (a pool table here with a friendly tournament in situ). Live music advertised. WiFi (requires pubs password) available. Piped music a bit 'knowing' but better than the usual dross. Two ales on, Brakspear and Doom Bar plus a limited cocktail menu. Barman called me 'chap' but was at least trying to be friendly despite a degree of unearned over-familiarity. The Doom Bar was in good shape, no complaints. Quite busy so they’re obviously doing something right. With a bit more of an adventurous outlook on the beer front this would be a decent draw.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Village Inn
Small 'L'-shaped bar with modern furniture and decor. Side conservatory and rear beer garden. Just one of two handpumps operational, offering a so-so pint of Youngs Ordinary (£3.30). Very quiet, and not a particularly warm welcome, but perhaps I caught it on a bad day.
