This pub is located in a local shopping precinct amongst an area of modern housing in Lower Earley, a southern suburb of Reading. With a Sainsbury's Local supermarket next door and an Indian restaurant around the corner, it's surprisingly all quite hidden away. You'd never guess there was a pub in the area.

As pubs in shopping precincts go, this one was also much better than I'd anticipated. Despite being a fairly new build, it had a nice, traditional interior and there were enough people in to create a favourable atmosphere on a Wednesday afternoon. Multiple TVs show different sporting events. A dog was wandering around, possibly the pub dog.

On the bar, 2 cask ales were on - Butcombe Original & Ringwood Boon Doggle. However, our attentions were drawn to a fridge behind the bar containing several boxes of Lilley's ciders - Bee Sting Perry, Raspberry Mojito Cider, Crazy Goat, Apples & Pears, Sunset & Red Rabbit.

A nice, community pub that I'd be happy to have as my local.

Popped back a few weeks ago - a couple of ales on and my St Austell went down very well. Seems to have had a general kick up the rear and is certainly much improved; clean, tidy and no dirty glasses!

Very bland, modern and chainy. A couple of ales (Adnams Broadside and Marstons Pedigree), served in dirty glasses. Mainly aimed at the deep-fried pub-grub mob and football watchers. It’s better than the Earley Retreat, I suppose.
