A seaside pub with a strong local flavour. This 1930s building consists of a single long bar with a conservatory on the side. The latter is set out as a restaurant. The m,ain bar has open brick fireplaces and a carpeted floor. The homely clutter on the walls, the friendly reception from staff and locals, and the traditionally genial landlord make it a good place to while away time. The clientele were civilised, although the average age was higher than the average IQ of some other nearby outlets. The only ale on offer was GK IPA which was dull and felt like it had been genitcally modified to resemble megakeg. As seaside pubs in this area go, it's one of the better ones, but if you are looking solely for beer quality, this isn't somewhere you want to be neaped.

This was one of my haunts, 50 years ago, when run by Joe Parkes. Revisited today after that long absence, and found it rather tired. Landlord was friendly, lunch was ok (but I would not choose the fish and chips again), and it was good to see it hanging in there, unlike the Old True Briton, now a Dominos outlet!
