Three handpumps, offering TT LL, Tribute and Harvey's Sussex Best. Keg was Aspall, Neck Oil, Pravha, Estrella, Asahi, Moretti, Guinness, Brooklyn Pilsner and their own branded Chequers Pale Ale.
Town centre venue, very homely with its real fires all lit on my very wet and miserable day of attendance. The U-shaped bar counter forms the centre piece of the venue with some sensible tall stool seating that doesn't obstruct access to the bar. Seating via leather banquettes around a good part of the rear perimeter serving regular tables, some wingback leather armchairs near the fire in the rear left-hand corner. Original flagstones in that corner and then a seagrass flooring to the right of that in the far corner of the bar counter and indeed around the front part of the venue. Some semi-circular fabric banquettes in the front to the left of the entrance. There is a dark wood panelled room to the right of the entrance with a couple of regular tables plus a round table served on one side by a leather sofa. Nice lighting and a languid guitar-based soundtrack on my visit. Cosy but lacking a bit on the beer inventiveness.

I'm surprised this isn't in the Good Beer Guide.... plenty of historical interest - with it being a C16th coaching house. A proper pub.
Four real ales on - two very local, a Tribute but I went for one of my favourites - Harveys Sussex Best. I would say its as good as I have had anywhere.

I recall a historic and atmospheric pub from my brief time living in Sevenoaks in the very early 2000s. I also recall the 5th November torch parade passing here in 2000 - like a scene from the Wicker Man.
I'd happily return here if passing.

A clearly historic town pub situated between two main streets just before they converge and consequently having entrances from both. Claiming to date from the 16th century, inside there are low beamed wonky ceilings entwined around with hops, the bar is more or less central with the room meandering around it. The once multi room layout can be imagined by the different wall and floor treatments and the various fireplaces, one of which was thankfully roaring away with logs on the go. One small end area has full height panelled walls and looked rather appealing but overall this is a warm and welcoming old pub. Another recess had a dartboard and TV. Regular seating at mostly scrubbed and sanded tables, there are newspapers, books and board games on shelves. There are a few nice framed black and white photos of the old town on the walls.
An historic write up suggests the pub was also once a local court house and had cells below with the town gallows being adjacent.
On the pumps were Tribute, Tonbridge Rustic, Harvey's Sussex Best, Westerham Spirit of Kent plus Old Rosie and Rosies Pig ciders.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Chequers Inn
Very historic (16th-century) inn in a prime location where the High Street and London Road join. The layout has been opened out at some stage, but the low ceilings and dark wood provide inside exactly what the exterior suggests. Harvey's (£3.80), Tonbridge Rustic, Westerham Spirit of Kent, Tribute and two ciders - Rosie's Pig and Old Rosie - from a total of nine handpumps.

This was formerly an Ind Coope house that is an old main road pub. It's a small low ceilinged L shaped single room with hops hanging above the bar. The front is carpeted but the side has wooden floorboards.
The bar has six hand pumps at the front with three around the corner that are just duplicates. Available were a cider, Tonbridge Copper Nob, Harvey's Best, St Austell Tribute, Westerham Spirit of Kent and a visitor from the West Midlands Backyard Blonde. I went for the Blonde (£3.50) which was in excellent nick.
This is a pleasant enough pub that is GBG 2015 listed.
