This old town pub is a bit of a mixture. The outside is littered with smokers' waste and was, on my last visit, "guarded" by a pair of very dodgy looking characters - not a sight to encourage trade. Inside, the clientele was rowdy in the public bar, but the saloon was a different story. After a bit of banter I was made to feel welcome, and the landlord made a point of chatting. He is passionate about his beer, and the pint of Late Red I had was absolutely first-class. Two other Sheps beers were on but I didn't try them.

This is a must for beer lovers when visiting the town, but don't expect a quiet evening.
