Fairly simple and unpretentious backstreet boozer over three rooms though no longer appears on the CAMRA Heritage list for whatever reason. There’s a tongue and groove wood panelled ceiling and blue velveteen settles in the main bar along with a scuffed wood floor. I failed to explore the rear room properly though apparently there’s bar billiards in there and I also utterly missed the snug. Upright piano spotted. Gents will appreciate the urinal splashback inhibitor. Seven pumps, majoring on Gadds. No problems with my No.7 (silly goblet glass excepted) and it was very drinkable, NBSS 4, fully-justifying the perennial GBG listing. Pre-stroke Edwyn Collins on the stereo, along with Hothouse Flowers – my kind of aural accompaniment. Feels like the kind of place where multiple visits really brings out the quality, as opposed to a flying half on a 20 minute layover crawl-heavy day.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Montefiore Arms
Proper side-street pub, retaining its multi-room Camra National Inventory heritage pub interior. Simply furnished and plainly decorated throughout, but the customers are here for the beer and friendly conversation, so who cares? Anyway, I found three Gadds beers on tap - No 3, No 7 (£3.50) and HPA - plus Citra from Oakham, Burning Sky's 7.2% Extra Stock Ale and a cider available from the six handpumps.

We managed to just get in before they shut for the afternoon at 2.30, luckily for us the manageress knew our drinking companion, so a quick pint wasn't a problem. We all went for the Gadd's bitter at £2.70 a pint, which was in top condition. It also turned out that the pub is run by Eddie Gadd, who is a founder of the local Gadd's brewery, and he has been running this pub for the last four years.
The interior consists of the original front mahogany bar front left with some narrow and ample drinking space. A good sized lounge area on the right hand side and a rear snug, which is served from a small hatch at the rear of the bar. Four ales on handpump, two from Gadds No 5 and No 7, Burning Sky Plateau and Oakham Deep Thought. We found the pub to be very welcoming and everyone was friendly and chatty. Well worth a visit to this traditional back street boozer.

The friendliest pub in Ramsgate. Try the Gadds local bitter at only £2 per pint.
