Keston's Fox is a very smart dining pub in a village that's on the fringes of South-East London, but not quite in Kent. Most tables are reserved for later, but I'll be gone before then and I had no problem just getting a pint, even with walking boots made more than a little muddy by the conditions. The ELB Cowcatcher slipped down well, and at £6.25, you really would hope so. With a bus stop right outside, access is simple enough though my next visit will be the start of a walk, so no beer then.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Fox Inn

Upmarket pub / restaurant at the top end of Keston opposite the expanse of ? Common, so no doubt popular with walkers too. The smart, L-shaped area at the front is set aside for those dining, with more general seating on the left-hand side and in a partly opened-out room at the back. A covered terrace and lower beer garden can be found beyond that. Landlord and ELB's Cowcatcher (£6.25) being served from two of the four handpumps on my visit.

London Pride and Doom Bar were the old faithfuls on handpump. I was in here on Friday afternoon for a wake, so it was inevitably very crowded. They do food at lunchtimes (I saw some decent looking burgers sailing past), but I didn’t see the menu or get any idea of prices.

This is clearly an old pub set in the centre of Keston (which is not big), on the corner of Heathfield Road and Fox lane. But there’s nothing faintly old inside. They’ve put a few sofas as you go in on the right, but the rest of the furnishings look fairly standard issue. A smallish conservatory has been added at the back, which leads out to a terrace, and which in turn looks down to a grassed garden area with some picnic benches. I would say that the outside seating areas are this pub’s major assets, when the weather is good enough to enjoy them. There’s a small car park on the left of the pub.

This is a nice enough pub, and even though the ale choice is hardly inspiring it does do a couple of drinkable ales. However, the country pub exterior does flatter to deceive somewhat. But, having said that, I would be happy to visit again in the unlikely event that I found myself in Keston again.
