Housed in a building of age with lots of exposed wooden pillars and beams, the Parrot has a wooden floored T-shaped bar with seating to the right of the entrance where a fireplace with a burner sits on the right-hand wall and more seating to the left where there’s access to ‘medieval dining’ that I assume is in the far left-hand side of the building, or maybe up on the first floor. Ahead of the entrance is a thick wooden right facing serving counter that supports shepherd Neame and premium keg alongside six hand pumps, three of which were in use drawing Spitfire, Whitstable Bay and Master Brew, the latter being £5.50 a pint in this tourist hotspot. In the rear, beyond the end of the counter, is a snug with seating that is faced by an inglenook across the rear wall where another burner sits. Out the back is a split-level courtyard garden that was popular during my sunny Friday afternoon visit. I found the service to be friendly, and the MB was on good form, so this is a decent spot if you’re ok with lots of American tourists.

A food oriented pub in a well preserved, ancient building with tasteful modern music going on in the background. I walked in and asked for a half of Master Brew, which was willingly served, then noticed that all the tables, including an upturned barrel, were set up for dining. Well, it's Valentines, isn't it. I soon spotted a small table just around the corner with no accoutrements and took my beer there (no beer mats). In fact there are five hand pumps but only two Sheps beers on, Whitstable Bay being the one I swerved; Bishops Finger was turned round.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Parrot
Dubiously claims to be Canterbury's oldest pub (although the former St Radigund's Hall is certainly one of its oldest buildings), and despite a makeover or two it retains some character in the 'T'-shaped bar and seating areas in three corners. So, very traditional in appearance - both inside and out - but in other ways quite modern as a 'Pub & Dining' establishment. Although lacking in obvious branding, it is a Shepherd Neame house, and on this visit I found Master Brew, Whitstable Bay Pale and the more seasonal Rudolph's Revenge (with a handwritten 5% label, £6.00) on three of the six handpumps.

A great Shepherd Neame pub close to Canterbury West Station, the layout described below. It was a pleasant evening with good banter and helpful staff. Ales on were Nun’s Delight, Masterbrew and Spitfire, plus Whitstable Bay Blonde and Stout. The beers were in good condition. It’s well worth a visit and makes for a good crawl when teamed up with other pubs just a stone’s throw away.

A Shepherd Neame pub, which dates from the 14th Century and is the oldest pub in Canterbury. The exterior of the pub is very inviting and the interior is equally as impressive. The interior consists of low ceilings, open Jacobean oak beams, flagstone floors and open fires. Six pumps, all in operation, we went for the Shepherd Neame Spitfire, which was well kept and presented.

Now under the name of "Parrots", this place has six hand pumps, each with a different ale. Six!!! Friendly staff, and a smashing beer garden.
