Predating the surrounding new town and set back from the road with a large car park in front,this is a Greene King tied house where there are some internal signs of an old building,the low ceiling helps but refurbs has taken away any charm which may have once existed.The entrance gives way to some high tables and a section to the right where families were gathered.Around to the left is an alcove with a pool table and high tables with a sports flatscreen on the wall and lots of Stevenage FC ephemera,while behind is a brick fireplace with an old beam above behind which is a discreet and charming snug area.To the left side of the building in a modern extension is a large dining room,although you can eat anywhere from the Greene King food service pub grub menu.
Two handpumps serving GK Abbot and IPA,my half was flat ,vinegar tang,NBSS 1 ,I couldn't be bothered to complain because I expect the Abbot would have been worse .I left most of it.Children wandering around noisily ,absolutely no reason to return
