Bucking Fastard left this review about The Crown
On the eastern fringe of Stevenage but situated down a narrow country lane in the small hamlet of Aston End the area feels rural. The pub is square with an open plan interior, sofas by the front door, dining style tables elsewhere with a large raised section to the right which wraps around the rear. There are some good photos of the area over the ages with some long lost pubs. The bar to the left has the usual keg options although 3 Brewers IPA was unusual, while both handpumps were clipped with TT Landlord,NBSS Acceptable but £3 the half.
Every table is set for dining, which is off putting while I was asked if I was going to eat,but the barmaid seemed happy enough that I was just in for a beer.Although there is a bi weekly Sunday quiz, there wasnt much pub atmosphere together with mindless muzak ,while the open kitchen was knocking out pub grub mains around £16.50,pizze £14.5 .The cheaper sandwich offer is only lunchtime mid week. The desert pricing of £8 eaxteded the feel of a pricey joint. There is a large beer patio with huge jumberellas if you want to go outside.
With just the ubiquitous TT Landlord on offer,no reason for a revisit.
