Just within the Hertfordshire border a few minutes’ walk from Sawbridgeworth Railway Station is the George Forth. Outside the front of this McMullen’s’ pub is a paved beer garden with seating that straddles the driveway to a garage. The interior consists of front and rear bars that were both fairly busy with a local crowd during my late Thursday afternoon visit. The front bar houses a plasma screen that was showing muted tennis via Sky Sports whilst the likes of Bon Jovi played a few hits. The rear bar was a little quieter with older regulars sitting on emerald banquettes in a traditionally decked out space. Monday through to Saturday there is an extended license until 23:30.
Available from the bar was a standard draught range and the cask ale options were McMullen’s Cask Ale, Country, IPA and AK.
I found the staff to be polite and the locals to be friendly. I liked it in here and thought that it was the best pub on my mini crawl of the area.

The George IV is a friendly, comfortable, clean, lively pub with great landlords and happy staff. There is a tv in one bar for sporting events & often on a Wednesday evening there is live music which is well worth a visit. There is a very nice patio garden with tables & chairs & gazebos. Plus a patio heater, making it more comfortable for the smokers in the winter! Good beer too. Highly recommended.
