Bucking Fastard left this review about The Chequers Inn
A pre war roadhouse with an unremarkable exterior but a very friendly welcome within.Through the central front entrance there is a large fish tank with a restaurant to the left, branded as Benick's,and a lounge to the right which has the bar.The lounge is carpeted throughout and is dominated by a large brick central fireplace which opens to both sides of the lounge .I am sure this fire must be a wonderful feature in cold winter weather. The furniture includes quite a few sofas with low coffee tables and some more traditional upright chairs and stools. The bar serves both sections of the lounge and in the far right hand side is a bar billards table (always good to see) and a fruit machine. The musak was played quite loud but wasnt offensive.Four handpumps, three serving on my trip Youngs Bitter ,Adnams Bitter and a guest of Thwaites Wainwright which was in good condition. The real ales were priced around £3.At lunchtime the restaurant proved more popular than the lounge, this is a respectable pub now featured in the 2011 GBG.
