A 17th century inn dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century: distressed wood flooring, lots of bare brickwork and some jarring upholstery, together with tables emblazoned with brightly coloured snakes and ladders boards for no apparent reason. Oh, and numerous sports TVs and rather annoying music (not to mention the DJ booth). Just Solstice on handpump, with other Mac/Rivertown on keg. Probably better to enjoy your beer on the tables outside in the square.

A McMullens tied house with an L shaped lounge interior with a former chimney breaking up one side.Beyond the chimney is a relatively quiet area but a Sky Sports flatscreen is attached to the other side facing the bar while at the other end of the L there is another large flat screen.During my lunchtime visit the volume was turned up and this dominated to such an extend I began wishing there was muzak instead.
The decor is modern yet sterile in that pubco way. There are four handpumps ,two unclipped the others dispensing AK and IPA.
Apparently when screening live sport the sound is turned down, and this is one of several Macs pubs in town with Sky.There is a standard pub grub menu with reasonable prices and the courtyard is popular in good weather with punters not too bothered about getting a decent pint.
A friendly welcome but a forgettable pub with little to warrant a revisit.

This is a forgettable pub with the ubiquitous Hertford drinks range of McMullens Country and AK along with a basic draught selection. There are plasma screens throughout the pub and another in the large yard out the back that also houses table football.
The maid was friendly, but this alone is no reason for me to return.
